Course Content
In my class, you will learn ways to stay healthy and low risk. We will cover how to exercise safely and learn postures to prepare your body for labor and birth. We will discuss ways to handle pain in labor and introduce and practice relaxation.
Early in the series, there will be a focus on all aspects of nutrition during pregnancy. We will evaluate your diet and learn ways to track and fulfill your needs. You will learn all of the “do’s, don’ts and dangers” of prenatal nutrition. I will share simple ways to integrate healthful and convenient foods into your diet that will benefit both you, your partner, and your child for life!
We will concentrate on the process of gestation, changes in the mothers body, growth of the baby, anatomy and physiology, and how to handle the hard work of labor. We will discuss the many choices that you will have ahead of you.
Fathers play an important role in the life of their child. That role begins during pregnancy. The knowledge that you will gain in my class will ready you for birth and beyond. The importance of being a great partner during pregnancy, labor, and birth is a key topic throughout the series.
The stages of labor are covered extensively. How your body works in each stage, respect for the natural process, physical and emotional signs, roles of natural hormones, and basic pushing techniques and positions. All are covered in great detail. You will take what you have learned and actually apply it during labor rehearsals.
My couples will learn to write a comprehensive, appropriate, and useful birth plan. Identifying your own priorities. Knowing and understanding your many choices. You will learn how to communicate with your medical team in a positive manner. You will gain a basic knowledge of how to avoid potential problems, and how to deal with necessary medical interventions.
Breastfeeding, postpartum care, newborn care, Mothering and Fathering all are covered during the last of our meetings and complement the labor and birth preparation.
